Thu, July 03, 2008 at 10:00:00 AM BANDITS NAME NEW ASSISTANT COACH The St. Louis Bandits and Head Coach & General Manager Regg Simon announced today that Tim Madsen has been hired as the team’s Assistant Coach. Madsen, a native of Elk River, Minnesota comes to the Bandits after recently graduating from Niagara University with a degree in Business Management. During his time at Niagara, he was selected as the Assistant Captain of the team his junior season, but had his career cut short due to an injury that same year. After the injury, he was put on staff as the Director of Hockey Operations for the team, and held that position for the next year and a half. During that time, he also did part-time scouting work in New York, the New England area and Ontario, Canada for Coach Simon. “I’d just like to thank the organization and Coach Simon for this opportunity,” said Madsen. “I look forward to helping carry on the winning tradition of the Bandits.” Prior to Niagara, Tim played two years of junior hockey with the Tri-City Storm and the Waterloo Blackhawks. In his second season, he helped Waterloo win the Clark Cup Championship, chipping in 19 goals and 12 assists that year. “Tim is a very thorough person and I trust his ability to evaluate players,” added Simon. “He’s hungry and passionate about the game and this level, and that’s something that will carry over into his coaching.” Wed, July 02, 2008 at 10:13:01 PM Bandits onto Western Michigan The St. Louis Bandits have announced that second-year forwards Kyle O'Kane and Ben Miller have committed to Western Michigan University (CCHA). O'Kane will begin his college career this coming fall, while Miller will head to the Kalamazoo, Mich., program for the 2009-10 season. This past year, O'Kane, from St. Louis, posted 40 goals for 69 points in 52 regular-season games. He was also a plus-23. In the postseason, the 21-year-old struck for five goals for eight points to help lead the Bandits to their second straight Robertson Cup championship. He was named the Robertson Cup Championship Tournament MVP. Miller, who began his NAHL career with the Texas Tornado, tallied 26 goals for 52 points in 43 regular-season games for the Bandits in 2007-08. The 19-year-old from Oakland Township, Mich., netted five goals and 11 points in 11 playoff games.
